Projects
What CapnCoil is actually building.
Every entry here carries a status, and the status is meant to be read. Some of it runs today, some of it is part-built, and one of it does not exist yet.
This list exists because the previous version of this site was written in a different register, where hardware that was half-built and hardware that was not built were described the same way. The statuses below are the correction, and they are only worth reading if they are allowed to say something unflattering.
CapnCoil Head Unit
Vehicle and field computing. Navigation, camera feeds, media, phone integration, and system monitoring, running on the vehicle.
Perception System
Camera perception that detects motion, tracks objects, and emits structured events. Runs locally on the vehicle; no AI model is installed yet, so it does not identify people.
Field Nodes
Modular sensing hardware intended to extend beyond the vehicle. Nothing has been built yet.
Mobile Power
Off-grid generation, LiFePO4 storage, and monitoring. Sized and measured against winter load profiles rather than a nominal capacity figure.

How to read these
Four states, and no fifth.
A status here is a claim about observed capability, not about ambition. It is chosen from what the code does, never from what a project is called or what a setting says. That rule exists because two camera settings on the head unit were once validated, stored, defaulted to on, and drawn as working toggles — and read by no backend code anywhere.
When something graduates from one state to the next, this list changes. If you are reading a status here, it is current as of this page being written, and the code behind it is what earns it.
How the platform fits togetherField work
Working on something that needs to be tested for real?
If a product needs to survive weather, vibration, power limits, and connectivity gaps, that is exactly the kind of problem this platform exists to expose.
